QPR Tournament – 06-May-18

QPR Tournament – 6th May 2018 – (report by Glenn)

A squad of ten players carrying all sorts of injuries and aches and pains made their way this morning to Shepherds Bush to play in a 12 team tournament!!.

The Walking wounded were…
Craig Forbes
George Ferrar
Glenn Cato
Howard Groves
Julian Knight (GK)
Mike Adams
Paul Salvietto
Paul Vinton
Steve Moss
Tony Beal

There were two groups of 6 teams playing 5 games each!!. In our group were Arsenal, Feltham, Lambeth Walkers, Uxbridge Amblers and Wimbledon.

First up was Arsenal!!.  Unfortunately the usual slow start from Watford in tournaments caught us out again!!.  We were a goal down very early into the game and was unable to recover!!
Result 0-1

Second game was Wimbledon!!. After a Mourinho style inquest we changed the team around and made sure everyone was awake!!.  Craig scored with a cracking right foot strike into the bottom left hand corner.

The standard of refereeing was of a reasonable standard.  As always there were decisions we did not agree with, particularly when a Wimbledon player was inside the penalty area but not seen.  The goalscorer admitted it should not of been allowed.  We tried to get the winner after this injustice but sadly ran out of time. The referee did apologise after the game.
Result 1-1

Third game Lambeth Walkers. With a sense of injustice still in the air we played a very controlled game and ran out comfortable winners with fine finishes and team goals from Howard with 2 and Glenn!!.
Result 3-0

Fourth Game Uxbridge Amblers. Another slow start we did not start playing until we had conceded 2 quick goals!!. Tony pulled one back with a calm finish and after this it was us against the keeper who pulled off some excellent saves!! Sadly we could not get the equaliser!!
Result 1-2

Fifth Game Feltham Our last group game we also knew we would not qualify for the knockout stages!! We played well with 2 fine finishes and team goals from Paul V and Tony!!
Result 2-0

A mixed bag of results 2 wins,2 defeats and a draw! A great effort by everyone in testing conditions!!. Arsenal won the final by beating Hemel 2-0!!. Hard luck to Andy Roads who was part of the Hemel squad who played well throughout the tournament!!
