Thames Valley Cup, Bisham Abbey: 08-Jul-28 (report by Glenn)

Another successful day for WATFORD WFC!!.

The Squad:
Andy R
Tony Beal

Also present was our lucky mascot Lakhi. There were four groups of 5 teams. In our group:
MK Mad Walkers
Oxford Utd B
Uxbridge Amblers A
Wycombe A

MK Mad Walkers failed to turn up so each team were awarded the points!

Game 1: 0-0 v Uxbridge Amblers A
A very hard-fought game in which the refereeing was different to what we are used to and hence quite challenging!.  Tony B (or now known as Kevin De Bruyne) scored what we thought was a fantastic solo goal but sadly was disallowed for running.

Game 2: 0-0 v Wycombe A
Completely dominated the game Kevin did not have one save to make. Unfortunately unable to break the deadlock!!.

Game 3: 0-0 v Oxford B
We knew due to previous results we needed a victory to go through to the trophy quarter-final. Another fine performance from ourselves with the opposition goalkeeper keeping us out with some fantastic saves. Again, unable to get the goal we required.

Game 4: 1-0 v Aylesbury A
We were very disappointed to be in the Plate because we felt that were the best team and playing the better football. The match was another fine performance from ourselves including a fantastic team goal in which the whole team were involved in the move with Dicky finishing off the move with a good strike. We controlled the game until the final whistle.

Plate semi-final 1-0 v Oxford A
We were on a mission now with everyone working as a team. We knew if we scored no way were we going to concede. Again another fine move finished off by Dicky. After this we saw the game out.

Plate final 0-0 v Chiltern
From the quarter-finals the other teams knew we were the team to beat by complementing on our team play and style of football. Chiltern started with three at the back which allowed us to play in their half and put the pressure on them. We dominated the Final with the unlucky Tony B again scoring what appeared to be a superb goal only to be denied for running again.

Now onto 3 penalties each. Kevin saved the first penalty with ease, Mike dispatched his penalty 1-0

Kevin yet again saved the second penalty. Now for Tony to win it. After his 2 disallowed goals it was justice for his strike to win it. He placed his penalty into the corner with ease. The trophy was coming home!

A great effort from the whole squad!
