14th July 2019 (report by Glenn)
Due to non availability and injuries unfortunately The Walkers & Amigos were unable to participate. This left The Hornets to fly the flag for Watford at Bisham. I must confess i was quietly confident we would do well!
Upon arrival we discovered several teams had failed to turn up. The admin team at TVL organised completely different leagues to what we had played in, our league for the day comprised of 5 teams.
MK Mad Walkers
Wokingham & Embrook
As we were warming up on the pitch. Wokingham had also failed to turn up so each team were awarded a 1-0 victory so a win on the board before we even kicked off.
First Game v Highworth Town 1-0 (Simon)
We started the game very well on the front foot with all the play in Highworth’s half. We created several good chances before we broke the deadlock. A fortunate goal but as the saying goes if don’t shoot you will not score. A shot from Simon managed to find the back of the net from a mistake from the Highworth keeper.
We were in total control of the game and created several more chances than the final whistle blew a great start 2 wins out of Two.
Second Game v Aylesbury United 1-0 (John)
Again we started well creating several chances. This game was very stop start compared to the first game. We played some fabulous possession football creating numerous chances. Than John scored with a shot from 15 yards. A thoroughly deserved victory so 3 wins out of three.
Third Game v MK Mad Walkers 3-0 (Steve 2, Simon)
You can see from the score line we played very well. I forgot how many chances we created playing some excellent football. Steve his usual clinical self in finishing off great team goals also Simon now playing as the front man grabbing another fabulous team goal.
We topped our group with 12 points with no goals conceded. Aylesbury in second place 5 points behind with both progressed to the semi-finals.
Semi Final v Oxford A 2-1 (Gary, Steve)
What a performance from ourselves the best on the day! Oxford started really well pushing us back with all the play in our half.
Than their pressure created the opening goal a powerful strike giving Kevin no chance so the first goal we conceded. How would we react?
What a response from ourselves! We pegged them back from our kick off and started to dictate the game. This allowed Gary to push further up the pitch to support the midfield. Then the equaliser a good passage of possession football allowing Gary to move into a left wing position. He received the ball and unleashed a cracking curling shot which flew into the net. Yes 1-1 back in the game.
We continued the pressure and got our reward. Another fabulous team goal finished off by the iceman Steve. Now with our noses in front we controlled the game until the final whistle.
The other semi-final finished 0-0 with Aylesbury United beating Bracknell on Penalties.
County Cup Final v Aylesbury United 0-0 lost 1-2 on Penalties
Now the Final playing a team we already defeated in the group stage. We had the majority of the game with Aylesbury playing a very defensive game. We created several good chances but were unable to convert. The 15 minutes flew by so onto the lottery of penalties.
Unfortunately we lost the shoot out. Well done to Aylesbury!
A fantastic squad performance from ourselves a real pleasure to manage this group of players.
