This month saw WWFC resources stretched to the limit by the Middlesex West Over 50 & 60 league at Uxbridge being postponed a week due to the Bank Holiday. Nonetheless, the 5 team managers and coordinators worked tirelessly for a week to ensure all 5 fixtures were fulfilled, and club players introduced to the leagues for the first time. Well done managers!!!

A few days before the meet the Hornets squad only had 5 players available. Thankfully Mark and Russell were added so we could at least assemble a squad of 7.

What pleased me was our reaction in these quick games if you concede the first goal you really are chasing the game and not playing your usual football. We did not panic we created several chances with the Reading defenders committing several last ditch challenges resulting in free kicks just outside the penalty box. With one of these free kicks Mark laid it back to Gary who calmly side footed it into the net a good goal. After this both teams were going for the win. Kevin pulled of a remarkable double save similar to Jim Montgomery’s in the 1973 FA Cup Final so rightly all the spectators and players applauded Kevin’s acrobatics. After a few more chances at both ends the final whistle blew.
