St George’s Park is a superb facility with a Hilton Hotel on the grounds. A relaxing afternoon where all attendees gathers in the bar (of course) before a few tested out the spa. Dinner for 14 was taken at the hotel while Will and Richard snook off for a curry before re-joining the group for some in depth analysis (for this read more beer).

Peter, Grant and John came with partners (Lisa, Karen and Irene) to make it a full weekend. Lisa’s recent birthday was celebrated courtesy of Kevin’s planning!

Following morning everyone was up and running with an excellent large buffet breakfast before getting changed and prepared for the matches to come. Games were played as 5-a-side but on pitches similar that we use at Harefield but a little smaller area. Pitches, match scheduling and referees were excellent.

Results are shown below:

Now some of you are going to wonder why it took the organisers over 45 minutes to finds a way of placing Watford 3rd.  Well after an hour of looking at this at home the only way I can find is that with the 4-way tie, the rule was to exclude the results with the top 2 qualifying teams and make a mini table for the 4 teams as below (if someone has a better idea I will amend)

The semi final was played indoors, again on a superb surface, against Wakefield who beat us in the first match convincingly.  A much closer game had Watford fall behind before so good attacks and smashing one against the post.  Shortly after  we did score a well worked team goal with 2 mins left before almost immediately conceding a soft goal to make the final score 2-1 and we were out.

The squad did make it to the BBC website with a photo and quote from the illustrious manager.
